Optional Excursions & Group Activities

During our Costa Rica retreat we've chosen a handful of incredible optional excursions that we'll organise as a group. These activities are completely optional, and you're welcome to join as many or as few as you'd like.

Please note: Excursions are not included in the retreat price. If you'd like to join one, payment must be made a few days in advance so we can reserve your place. Unfortunately, we won't be able to reserve spaces without payment, and we won't be collecting money afterwards. If you decide at the last minute, availability cannot be guaranteed.

Zip Line Canopy Adventure

Approximate cost: US$75 per person

One of the absolute highlights of the area, this adventure takes you soaring through the Costa Rican rainforest on 10 exhilarating zip lines connected by 12 platforms, with breathtaking views across the jungle and Pacific coastline. The final zip line is one of the longest in the region, making this an unforgettable experience for thrill seekers. Keep your eyes open for monkeys, scarlet macaws, sloths and other incredible wildlife along the way.

 

Waterfalls Adventure Hike

This is one of the most rewarding experiences in Costa Rica, but it is not for the faint-hearted.

You'll hike through beautiful rainforest, scramble over rocks, climb alongside steep drops, and swim through crystal-clear waterfalls hidden deep within the jungle. Along the way there's a great chance of spotting wildlife including monkeys, colourful birds and tropical plants.

Please be aware: you need to be reasonably fit and comfortable with climbing and uneven terrain. There are steep sections and exposed drops, so this excursion isn't suitable for anyone who struggles physically or has a fear of heights.

The effort is more than worth it—this is genuinely one of the most spectacular adventures in Costa Rica.

 

Tortuga Island Day Trip

Spend a full day exploring one of Costa Rica's most beautiful tropical islands.

The excursion includes:

• Boat trip to and from the island

• Snorkelling in crystal-clear waters

• Lunch included

• Time to relax on the stunning white sand beach

• Reserved sun loungers for relaxing by the sea

It's the perfect opportunity to slow down, enjoy the ocean and experience the incredible coastline.

 

Included Group Highlights (Free)

Alongside the optional excursions, we'll also enjoy plenty of activities together that are included as part of the retreat.

Baby Turtle Hatching Experience

We'll head out around 7:00pm to watch baby turtles hatch and make their journey to the ocean—an unforgettable Costa Rican experience (season and conditions permitting).

Sunday Church Visit

We'll attend a welcoming American Christian church in Jacó on Sunday morning for anyone who would like to join.

Sunset Walk to the Graffiti Hotel

We'll take a scenic walk up to the famous abandoned hotel overlooking Jacó, now covered in incredible street art. Our resident street artist, Johnny, will be creating some live spray-paint artwork while we enjoy one of Costa Rica's famous sunsets together.

Jacó Beach Sunsets

Watching the sunset on Jacó Beach will become one of our regular evening traditions. Expect plenty of relaxed evenings together by the ocean as the sun goes down.

Staying Longer in Costa Rica

The official retreat finishes on the final day, but you're very welcome to extend your stay if you'd like to explore more of this amazing country.

Our team (including the KEXX staff) will be leaving early that morning and travelling back towards San José through Costa Rica's beautiful national parks. We'll spend the night in San José before enjoying a full day exploring the city's museums, cultural attractions and historic areas before heading to the airport for our evening flight home.

If you'd prefer to stay on independently, there are lots of fantastic options.

We generally don't recommend travelling to the Caribbean coast at this time of year, as it is typically much wetter.

​

Instead, we'd recommend either:

• Staying a few extra days along Costa Rica's beautiful Pacific coast around Jacó.

• Returning to San José and using it as a base for additional day trips to national parks, wildlife reserves and other incredible attractions.

There are also plenty of activities available around Jacó if you'd like even more adventure, including:

• Quad bike hire and guided ATV adventures.

• Surfboard hire.

• Surf lessons for complete beginners through to experienced surfers.

Costa Rica is an amazing country with so much to discover, so if you have the opportunity to stay a little longer, we highly recommend making the most of it.
